The Toyota Prius shortage has put the hybrid car on back-order for months. For many reasons, Toyota
is cutting back on car production, which is especially frustrating for the people who traded in their clunkers for new priuses in the recent ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program. The Toyota Prius is one of the most wanted vehicles and has taken a greater importance in “going green”.
Many people are buying a Prius because of the recent raised gas prices. The jump in gas prices last year made the demand for this car skyrocket. The amount of fuel savings is around $1,100 a year. It has become ‘the car’ for saving money and being eco-friendly.
Toyota has also been making cars as they need them, which makes sure the cars just wont be sitting in a warehouse. They also make the Toyota parts as needed for the cars, resulting in production slow-down.

The new ‘Cash for Clunkers’ plan was a big hit when it opened a week ago Friday. Cash for Clunkers was the #1 search word on Google. But it was too big of a hit; it might seem for the government. The six month supply of money that was used to pay back the dealerships was gone within the week. Nobody anticipated this to be so popular. Congress is trying to get another 2 billion to pay back the dealerships, but no money has been granted yet.
On the first day of Cash for Clunkers, Dealers all around the country received the rules of the program. The Clunker must be drivable and has to be continuously insured and registered to you for one year. Trade in cars must get no more than 18 miles to the gallon. The Dealer is destroying your old car. And the Dealer’s retail price for the trade it cannot except $45,000.
On the first weekend, dealerships saw a 20% – 30% increase in new car sales. But, as they went in to submit the information required to get the refund, they found the website constantly down due to the overload of people using the website. It is still this way today.
The top car model that was traded in over the past couple of weeks was the 1998 Ford Explorer. In a close second and third is the 1997 and 1996 models. The Toyota Corolla and Prius are numbers three and four in top cars to trade in for.
If you have a 1984-89 model year vehicle, please check the CARS Vehicle Eligibility Guide to determine whether your vehicle meets the eligibility requirements.

The New 2010 Prius is still honoring its name, as the new model has been more than 90 percent redesigned and combined with one of the best aerodynamic performances in the world. The Prius has certain advances that help it achieve the world leading fuel efficiency of 38.0km/l2. It comes with four driving modes to match specific driving environments as well as a solar-powered ventilation system and other bold features. Since becoming the world’s first mass production hybrid, it has sold in more than 40 countries and has sold over 1.25 million units as of March 31, 2009.
The engine has a higher efficiency, while the motor, inverter, and other units are smaller, lighter, and more efficient. The high fuel efficiency and driving performance is equivalent to those of a 2.4-liter engine, while the Prius has a 1.8-liter engine. The engine raises the fuel efficiency at high speeds, because the engine reduces rpm. The Prius has the first ever electric-powered water pump that draws its energy from the battery. This reduces friction loss through constant control of the water flow and drive belt.
Slimmer front seatbacks and other slight adjustments create a roomier interior. A pre-crash safety system, vehicle stability control, six restraint system airbags, and headrests are available to ensure safety at the highest level. Improvements in the body reduce the likelihood of head injuries to pedestrians to achieve one of the highest levels of injury prevention. Review of materials and processing methods reduced organic compounds and unpleasant interior odors to levels agreeable with the industry standards. All of these changes use toyota parts.
The Prius. Where going green looks cool. And is easier on the wallet. Imagine driving in a stylish, ecofriendly car while saving money during the $4 a gallon gas period. That’s what I call a fashionable, smart car.

Toyota has yet again proven their commitment and dedication to creating highly efficient, environmentally friendly cars with excellent Toyota parts. In this year’s Green Book’s “The Best Of” list, published by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), Toyota placed in more categories than any other car brand.
Of the fourteen categories judged at the event, eight included Toyota vehicles and five of those were number-one positions. The vehicles ranked first included the Prius, the Corolla, the Yaris, the Tacoma, and the Sienna.
Toyota also has more cars on “The Greenest Vehicles of 2008″ list and the “Greener Choices of 2008″ list than any other automaker.
There is no doubt that in the coming years Toyota will continue to remain the greenest automaker in the country.

It’s no secret that the Toyota Prius is one of the hottest hybrid cars on the market today. Equipped with genuine Toyota parts and Toyota accessories, the Prius has become the leading choice for environmentally conscious consumers.
That’s why it’s hardly surprising that it was recently announced that Toyota has sold over 1,000,000 hybrid cars in the US since their launch in 2000. That number accounts for both Toyota and Lexus hybrids but with 700,000 of those sales belonging to the Prius, it’s holding up pretty well.
Worldwide the Prius has sold 1.2 million of the total 1.7 million hybrid cars sold by Toyota and Lexus.
Be sure to look for the third-edition 2010 Toyota Prius at your local Toyota dealer.

In 2010, Toyota will begin rolling out their first ever plug-in hybrid car. Equipped with already legendary Toyota parts, the new plug-in is a modified version of the company’s highly fuel efficient Toyota Prius.
It was Toyota President Katsuaki Watanabe who officially confirmed the rumors that the plug-in hybrid would become a reality at this year’s Detroit Auto Show. While the car will initially only be available to Toyota’s commercial and government customers, we’re certain that they won’t keep the rest of us waiting for long.
Thanks to a combination of high quality Toyota parts and new lithium-ion battery technology, the new car will be capable of 99.9 miles-per-gallon in EV mode!
