You’ve probably heard mechanics talking about OEM parts or Toyota OEM parts. But do you know what this means?

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer. These are parts that were actually built by the manufacturer.

For instance if you’re looking for Camry parts, OEM Camry parts would be made by Toyota. Car parts not made by the manufacturer are often times referred to as generic or off-brand parts.

So when your Toyota needs new parts what should you get … OEM or generic?

You should go with OEM parts and it’s not just because we sell them. Here’s the truth about OEM parts.

OEM Parts Fit The First Time – With OEM parts, you don’t have to worry about the parts not properly fitting. That’s because the manufacturer specifically designed the parts.

OEM Parts Are Quality Made – Every OEM part meets manufacturer’s specifications. No corners were cut. It’s all about quality.

OEM Parts Perform Better – These are the parts that were specifically designed for your vehicle. You can be sure that they’ll help your car perform at its best.

OEM Parts Come With A Warranty – Most OEM parts are at least backed up with a one-year warranty. You don’t get that with most generic parts.

Sure there are some that will say OEM parts are more expensive than off-brand parts. But you get what you pay for. With generic parts, the quality is not as great … you don’t have much selection … and you don’t always get a warranty.

In our opinion, go with the OEM parts!

Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. is instructing dealers to attach floor mats to seat frames on the driver’s side of select vehicles with self-locking wire ties to prevent the mats from snagging on gas pedals and causing unintended acceleration.

Toyota Motor Sales began sending out instructions about the fix to its regional sales offices on Thursday, Oct. 1. Regional personnel began distributing the information to dealers the next day.

He says the mats are to be secured to the driver’s seat frame with nylon self-locking wire ties, described as plastic straps that loop back into themselves and lock when pulled tight. Dealers also are to attach a label to the wire tie warning dealers and customers to ensure that these Toyota accessories are secured with restraining straps. Toyota vehicles involved are 2007-10 Camry’s, 2005-10 Avalon’s, 2004-09 Prius’s, 2005-10 Tacoma‘s and 2007-10 Tundras.

Edmunds.com is a well known site for just about anything car related. It is almost overwhelming there are so many options for finding information on the site.

The sky is the limit on this site for picking out the vehicle you want. It’s pretty cool. Pick out what you want and then you have the option to get free price quotes, price with options, what incentive and rebates are available, financing options, insurance, warranties, comparisons, and calculators are all right there when you pick out your car.

They also have tips and advice, forums to participate in where you can browse by vehicle or topic, make, theme and more. The forums are quite large and you can probably find a thread on a topic you are interested in.

The other cool thing they have is their local services section where based on your zip you can find a dealership or repair shop to help you out. You can go into maintenance guide and get just about anything. I tried a Toyota Camry. I got a list of recall and service bulletins, genuine Toyota parts that are suggested to be serviced or replaced with an approximate price for the parts and labor. They also provide a list of repair shops in the area to service your car and so much more.

Really if you have a question, any question about a car you should check out Edmunds.com. It has a wealth of information on just about everything vehicle related and if what you are looking for isn’t there, there is probably a link to someplace that is.
