Toyota Gets High Marks For Not Needing Service

Toyota recently got high grades from CarMD for having the fewest and the least expensive repairs among all automakers.

According to CBS Money Watch, the 2009 Toyota Corolla had the least frequent trips to the repair shop. The average repair cost for the Corolla was just $45.84. Here is how Toyota compared to the rest of the automakers.

2012 Toyota Tacoma is, you guessed it, “Refreshed”

It seems that with every new vehicle unveiled at Toyota, another layer is added to the cumulative feel of the brand. Nearly every vehicle slated for a 2012 sales year has been redesigned to appeal to those looking for a more “fun to ride” vehicle that has a ferocious presence on the road. This trend was continued in the recently announced Toyota Tacoma. While not very many changes happened under the hood this year, several aspects of the vehicle’s exterior and interior were reworked. The result is a vehicle that, according to the press release, “offers a restyled exterior look and a redesigned, upgraded interior in all models for 2012. New changes add comfort, usability and audio/infotainment performance.”

The face of the vehicle has been significantly changed, to reflect the more angular look Toyota has been working on of late. This involved “a redesigned hood, grille, headlamps and front bumper, among other changes.” It’s really no surprise here that it is in fact more aggressive. Based on the recent drive for attitude in Toyota’s aesthetic division when designing vehicles for the 2012 model year, it can safely be assumed that Akio Toyoda (CEO) has a new image for Toyota in mind. Ever since the LFA shook the company at it’s foundation, it seems like more and more consumer models are aimed towards that look and feel. The 2012 Toyota Tacoma still has it’s rounded corners that make the iconic truck what it is, but the lines and contour of the front end is much more defined.

The interior was also significantly reworked, to involve the latest and greatest in comfort. “Access Cab models offer a new available six-speaker system with an AM/FM/ Satellite Radio-capable head unit with a single-disc CD player. Built-in Bluetooth® allows hands-free phone, and a USB port enables connection of an iPod®, MP3 player or flash drive with music files.“ The DoubleCab V6 model includes Toyota’s EnTune multimedia suite, allowing drivers to access their personal entertainment media in a quick distraction-free way.

Toyota has also expanded the optional configurations of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, to involve different combinations of Toyota Parts and Toyota Accessories. The X-Runner, X|T, and X|T Pro models all are different versions of the same great vehicle, tailored to appeal to different audiences.

2012 Camry Reworks a Proven Classic

The Toyota Camry has become one staple of the modern U.S. automotive market. Every year, it grows in popularity and rank among its competing mid-sized sedans, and this year was no different. According to Toyota in a press release about the newly unveiled 2012 Camry, the company has worldwide sold over 15 million Camry models since it’s introduction in 1983. This year, however, Toyota has completely redesigned the wildly successful automobile. The redesign follows the current business model of Toyota: injecting their luxury and high-end vehicles (made with world renowned Toyota Parts) with a new youthful and intense drive for excellence. They did this through an updated engine, a redesigned exterior, and a surprisingly spacious interior.

The main change in the Toyota line recently has been the look of their vehicles. It seems like ever since the Lexus LFA debut last year, designers and engineers have been drawing from it’s energy and attitude to breath new life into their current products. This trend continues with the 2012 Camry. During the unveiling, Toyota executives spoke about the redesigned exterior. “The first thing you’ll notice about the new Camry is its clean, sophisticated exterior,” Bob Carter the Group Vice President and General Manager of Toyota Division said. “100 percent of the exterior sheet metal is all new. And overall over 90% of the parts in Camry are re-engineered.” It now has very more sharply defined contours along both the front and back bumpers, that all lend to a more dynamic yet flowing look.

The second focus of the 2012 Camry was performance. “Camry’s efficient 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine will meet the needs of a majority of customers,” Carter said. “For great fuel economy the 178-horsepower engine is teamed with a six-speed automatic transmission, providing smooth acceleration with a best-in-class 35 miles per gallon — highway.” He hit on several aspects of the vehicles specifications, and in combination with the separate press release on pressroom.toyota.com, we have learned that the 2012 Camry will also house a “DOHC 3.5-liter V6, available in the SE and XLE grades, delivers 268 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 248 lb.-ft. of peak torque at 4,700 rpm. Enhancements to this engine boost its fuel economy to projected EPA-estimated ratings of 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway, the best for any current V6 midsize sedan”

It seems like Toyota has once again pushed one of their already very successful automobile lines into the future, and there is no doubt that the 2012 Camry powered by Genuine Toyota Parts will be greeted with enthusiasm from its already huge American fanbase.

Lexus Unveils officially the GS 350

The 2013 Lexus GS 350 faced a complete redesign, and is lined up to be the new face of Lexus Luxury.

Toyota has long been teasing the new 2013 Lexus GS 350 as the new face of Lexus Luxury. At Pebble Beach, CA, Toyota officially unveiled this model at the Concours d’Elegance, self described as “the world’s premier celebration of the automobile.” This event has been one of the premier outlets where automotive companies unveil their latest products, and Toyota didn’t disappoint this year. With several styling changes and a much more aggressive and fun-to-drive platform, the Lexus GS350 is aiming to change the game when it comes to Toyota luxury cars. There will also be “other 2013 GS models that will be launched in early 2012 include hybrid and F Sport versions, with further details to be announced later this year”

Possibly the most exciting part about this vehicle is the effort and ideas behind the design. When Mark Templin, the Lexus group vice president and general manager, introduced the design and floor model to the public, he talked about what buyers really want in a luxury car.

“Today, buyers in the mid-size luxury segment want a more engaging driving experience, styling that makes a statement, and a roomier interior package. With the all-new GS, we’re giving them what they asked for, and more.”

It’s all about aggression and confidence in the 2013 model. Everything the engineers at Lexus did with the vehicle was aimed towards those two terms, and the well-defined standards of luxury carried the rest of the project to the place its at now. From the front grille that hints towards the Lexus supercar LFA, to the spacious interior that Lexus is known for, and finally to the redesigned platform, the Lexus 2013 GS350 is designed to make the driver experience a more intimate and fierce experience on the road.

One of the key points Toyota pointed out in their press release was the redesigned platform. It is significantly wider than the previous models, which gives the whole vehicle a more “engaging” experience. “Engineers conducted extensive platform testing, ultimately increasing the number of spot welds and adding laser welds in very specific locations,” the press release said. “The track, wider by almost two inches, works in combination with a revised suspension design to assure a more solid stance and superior cornering performance.” The Toyota Parts in this model were definitely tweaked to push the limits of what a conventional Luxury model is thought of.

Overall, the new model will be something to keep an eye on, and the Toyota parts that power it are sure to be a massive part in the design. One thing to really watch out for is the influence this new Lexus styling will have on both competing companies and other lines under the Toyota scope of influence.

Toyota Opens Hydrogen Fueling Station

As many of you may know, Hydrogen vehicles are on the rise in the automotive industry. While there is not a current option for the everyday consumer that is powered by the quasi-mythical Hydrogen Fuel cell, whenever the future of transportation is concerned they come into the conversation. However, in order for the industry to make this move, the infrastructure must supply a steady stream of liquid and or gaseous hydrogen and the prices of Hydrogen vehicles must drastically decrease over the next couple years.

This week Toyota unveiled a Hydrogen fuelling station that will be the beginning framework of the infrastructure needed to sell hydrogen powered vehicles. Located in Torrence, California, this station was built to start the process. Toyota is now leasing the land to Shell, who operates and maintains the station, and any customer of the very few in California can come and refuel at the free station. The main distinction between this station and other hydrogen stations around California is how it gets it’s hydrogen.

Unlike others, Toyota’s new fueling station does not get it’s hydrogen from a truck delivery. Instead, the complex receives it’s fuel from an underground pipeline already in place, put there by Air Products. This is a huge step for a hydrogen fueled infrastructure because it allows the station to depend on something as steady as a pipeline.

The price of Hydrogen vehicles is the next thing holding back this advance in technology. Currently, automotive engineers agree that the price of hydrogen fuel cell-powered vehicles usually hovers around 100,000, which is understandably an unrealistic price for the open market. Instead, Toyota is striving to reach a goal of 50,000 by 2015. By then, they hope to have supplied and integrated the US infrastructure with enough Hydrogen fuelling stations to supply consumers investing in the vehicle.

Hydrogen is, after all, the most abundant element in the universe.

Toyota Recognizes the iOS Jailbreak Community

Toyota recently unveiled and launched a new advertising campaign, this time focusing on the minority of ipod touch/iphone users who have jailbroken their phones. They launched a “theme” through the Cydia jailbroken app store, and became what some say the first legitimate company recognizing that side of the Apple community.

For those not 100% tech savvy, jailbreaking might seem like a pretty shay thing to do. When Apple puts out the devices they are famous for, they lock down the software to block any app installs that aren’t from the Apple App Store. Users and developers around the world have found ways around this, and said “Jailbreaking” allows users to side-load applications as well as change the look and feel of an iOS device. While this has been around for a while, many companies and organizations have looked down on the procedure, especially Apple.

When Toyota wanted to launch this theme, based around their Scion brand, they contacted the advertising company Velti. The company developed the theme, and then proceeded to publish it to the Cydia app store. Velti was having communications with the Cydia marketers since April of Last year, so this project was obviously well thought-out on Toyota’s part.

The interesting part of the whole story, however, is that this week, Toyota pulled the theme from the Cydia Store. Allegedly, Toyota recieved a letter from Apple asking them to remove the theme. Toyota, wanting to keep their relationship with Apple in good standing, bliged. In a statement to the maintainers of techblog Jalopink, Toyota stated “At no point did Apple ask us to end/remove the “jailbreak” component of our campaign. The campaign ended at the end of March as scheduled. Overall it was a very interesting experiment that extended advertising to reach a new, unique audience.” Valti, on the other hand, said in several emails to cydia maintainers that the theme was pulled directly after a volley of emails and phone calls from Apple.

This advertising campaign was aimed to grab attention of those who love to customize. Scions, like jailbroken Apple products, are known for the different features like Toyota Parts and Toyota Accessories that can be added/removed to make the experience more personal for the end user. Trouble in Venezuela

Now, when you think of Venezuela, many things come to mind, and one of them is President Hugo Chávez. Known for his strict economic policies, Mr. Chávez has nationalized many industries, such as its oil production, but could Venezuela’s international auto industry be next? This week, Mr. Chávez has made threats towards many automotive companies, including Toyota, which could lead to their nationalization.

One of Hugo Chávez’s main concerns is the sharing of new technology with the residents of Venezuela. Most residents of the South American nation live in rural areas, so their best mode of transportation would be all terrain vehicles. Mr. Chávez believes that many of the best vehicles that Toyota produces are not being produced in their Venezuelan factory, and this is an issue for Chávez. If he finds, after an extensive inspection, that the factory is not producing the newest technology available, Mr. Chávez is threatening to nationalize the factory and then sell it to a Chinese company.

If the Venezuelan Toyota branch is lost, the company in general will be little affected. In Venezuela, Toyota sells approximately 30,000 vehicles and Toyota Parts a year, and they are still at a lower price than the national average. Compared to the nine million vehicles sold in 2008, Venezuela is not what you would say a “hard hitter” for Toyota.

Toyota is not the only car manufacturer who is having their production inspected. Others who are being threatened by the Venezuelan government are Chrysler Group LLC, and General Motors Co.

While Toyota is attempting to compromise with Mr. Chávez, there really isn’t enough business in Venezuela for them to invest transferring the newest technology. Realistically, even the most inexpensive vehicles are mostly too expensive for the everyday citizen in developing countries. That said, Toyota has mentioned beginning development of a “New Compact Car” (NCC) aimed at developing countries such as Brazil and India, and is slated for release in 2010. It would be a basic car, without all the extras, that would make the NCC extremely inexpensive, but still powered by the Toyota Parts you can find at your nearest Kansas City Toyota Dealership.

Ok, so Johnny’s got a soccer game at 3:30, Jenny has choir rehearsal at 4, and you have to pick them both up by 5:30 to make it to Josh’s band concert at 6. If there was ever a need for a new, modern, and comfortable minivan, now is the time.

Say hello to the 2011 Toyota Sienna, newly announced by Toyota at the Los Angeles Auto Show. With a newly designed body shape and interior design, it will be a needed revamp of the 2004 second-gen Sienna. Tons of new modern features, including comfortable second row seats with newly added footrests, add that extra level of comfort for the family. Other optional features have been revealed; a widescreen DVD player capable of two inputs simultaneously, and a tinted sunroof can definitely pass the time on a long trip. Also, as with the current Sienna, we can expect a powerful engine that will give it an edge on the rest of the competition.

Sounds good, Right? Well, the Sienna isn’t perfect. One of the biggest complaints from former models is that the look is somewhat boring. Personally, I think the Sienna is designed to be a “Man’s Van” and for that purpose it get’s the job done. Its got the Toyota Toyota parts, Toyota accessories, and everything in between to make your minivan experience comfortable. Plus, recently released pics of the model give it a more modern and smooth look, which I love. The new model is projected to hit the nearest Kansas City Toyota Dealer in February of 2010, so keep an open eye out for the next level in Toyota minivans!
